When life gives you lemons...clean your house! This citrusy fruit has all kinds of helpful uses around the house, from removing stains to freshening your microwave. And this dishwasher trick I spotted on The Kitchn may be the most genius one yet.
Next time you're ready to do a load of dishes, slip a lemon wedge in with your wash (it doesn't even have to be freshly sliced — it can be an already-juiced wedge). It should sit on the top rack of your dishwasher, skewered on a plate wire, or in the cutlery container, so it doesn't move around. Then, run your dishwasher as you normally would.
When the cycle is finished, you'll open up your dishwasher to find that your dishes are more sparkly clean than ever. Plus, the lemon leaves behind a very faint smell, adding some extra freshness.
After making a recipe that calls for lemons, I like to first use the leftover wedges to wipe down my cutting board, and then put them in her dishwasher. "[It] feels so much better than just throwing those lemons out," (lemons are also great to put down the garbage disposal to freshen it up).
Cheers All - Enjoy Your Memorial Day Weekend Whatever You Do!
